Father’s Day is a time to remember and celebrate the fathers, father figures, grandfathers, and other role models who have helped shape our lives. It is a day to say thank you to those who have supported us and taught us many of the important life lessons we still carry with us today.
The role and experience of a father figure is different in everyone’s life. For many, he was there to help you through your first breakup, your first job interview, and move into your first home away from home. He taught you how to balance a checkbook, throw a ball, catch a fish, and change a tire. He taught you that you can do anything you put your mind to. He also taught you the importance of family.
It’s also a time for fathers to reflect upon their role in a child’s life; to appreciate the family they have nurtured and supported. It is a day to surround yourself with your loved ones and be thankful.
This Father’s Day is also an opportunity for you to begin the process of becoming a father, whether for the first time or hundredth. That journey begins right here with Uplift Family Services and our foster care and adoption services.

Become a Resource Parent on Father’s Day
While Uplift Family Services is looking for resource parents (formerly called foster parents) and resource families from all walks of life, there is a particular need for men who are looking to become resource parents. Generally speaking, many of the resource parents who apply are single women or couples and there is a need for more men who are able to love and support youth in foster care. (However, regardless of your marital status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression, we would love to welcome you into the Uplift Family Services community.)
There are many ways you can care for a child or teen in foster care, from standard foster care to respite care or even becoming a professional parent.
As one of our Professional Parents in the San Francisco Bay Area says, “We love challenges and working with kids. When the youth succeeds it feels like a victory for me as well and makes the challenge worth more.”
Maybe your children have grown up, moved out, and have families of their own.
Maybe you have extra love to spare and want to grow the family you currently have.
Maybe you have never had children, but have always wanted to support and nurture a child or teen.
Or, maybe it’s not the right time for you, but you know the perfect role model who may be interested in becoming a resource parent.
Whatever your reason, Uplift Family Services would love to show you how rewarding it can be to foster and/or adopt a child or teen can be. And, it’s important to note that it’s free to apply to and become a certified resource parent.
