Foster Care and Adoption Services returned to the Fairfield office in the form of Therapeutic Foster Care. The team is actively recruiting resource parents – often referred to as foster parents – to partner with our agency as caregivers for youth and young adults in Solano County.
What is Therapeutic Foster Care?
Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) is a short-term, intensive, trauma-informed rehabilitative service for youth and young adults up to age 21 with complex emotional and behavioral needs. The TFC model is intended for youth and young adults who require intensive and frequent mental health support in a one-on-one environment due to past trauma or abuse. This one-on-one care is provided by a resource parent and requires a specific approach to ensure success. TFC often includes 24/7 care, a supportive and structured home life, and long-term services to succeed in school, at home and in the community.
TFC is a home-based alternative to high-level care in institutional settings, such as group homes or in-patient facilities, as providers continue to move towards home-based care for most, if not all, forms of foster care. TFC resource parents are trained and provide treatment to the youth or young adult in coordination with their Child and Family Team (CFT). Resource parents record daily Medi-Cal notes to chart the treatment and receive a higher stipend than traditional foster care.
