As an ongoing effort, Pacific Clinics wanted to understand our clients’ experiences to better support our ability to treat them holistically by capturing their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression (SOGIE) information. As such, Pacific Clinics’ LGBTQ+ Education Advancement and Development of Services (LEADS) Network, a resource group led by employees of Pacific Clinics, developed a tip sheet to help other mental health and health care providers obtain this information based on employee and client survey assessments.
Click here to access the one-pager full of helpful tips and insights to gather this information.
Additionally, we acknowledge the importance of working with our clients and their families in their primary language. To assist in the process of addressing SOGIE in other languages, please see the following resources:
- Honeycomb Hideout: Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese
- Human Rights Campaign: Spanish
- National Immigrant Justice Center: Arabic
As clinicians, peer partners and other care team members, you might also consider noting if the client wants this information included in their electronic health record (EHR) or, in the case of minors, wants it shared with family members or caretakers.

One of Pacific Clinics’ promises to our clients and families is to offer unique individualized, culturally respectful and unconditionally welcoming services and spaces.
