November is National Career Development Month. This year, Pacific Clinics highlights more than 50 dedicated employees who pursued and earned their peer support specialist certification during this celebration.

The event opened with a heartfelt congratulations from Regional Executive Director, New Business Audrey Read Brown acknowledging the 2024 honorees, a message from the host and mistress of ceremonies, and one of California’s first certified peer support specialists, Michelle Tanner, assistant education director. During this fun and interactive event, participants heard testimonials, peers showcased their talents through artwork, an essay and a song, and attendees took part in a mix of trivia and games. Guests included a California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) representative and special guests Laura Pancake, chief clinical officer and Jacquelyn H. Torres, vice president, emerging and statewide services who shared their personal stories and journeys.

“We know that when our clients are feeling the most vulnerable and in the greatest need, our peer partners are often the people who make the connection and build trust to help them move forward,” said Laura. “So, I’m inspired by all employees who go the extra mile to obtain their certification and for the incredible work they do for our clients.”

The celebration included a presentation by Jim Wainright, senior clinical director, on the early pathways of peer support at Pacific Clinics (see timeline below). At the end, participants were quizzed and could win more prizes for correct answers.

Peer certification training is offered though the Pacific Clinics Training Institute (PCTI) and the Recovery Education Institute (REI).
