The horrifying and senseless recent killings of three African Americans – Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd – have evoked a range of feelings across the country from anguish to anger. These recent events remind us of the inhumane treatment of individuals that have punctuated our country’s past and continues today as our nation struggles to fully address racism, bigotry and hate crimes….
Over the past few days, news of powerful protests demanding equal value of lives has been ever present. During this time of unrest, perhaps it is useful to consider once again the compelling words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said in his well-known speech: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed; We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.
These horrific issues are important to all of us, and Pacific Clinics continues to uphold the following core value: We celebrate diversity and respect cultural differences.
This core value speaks to the issue confronting all of us, once again, as we recognize inequities and prejudices. As we grieve for lives lost and as we condemn racism, let us embrace the need for change. Dr. King’s timeless words should echo most loudly at this time in our nation’s history: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
As a community, we stand together to promote equality and protect the civil rights of all.
