Diane Schultheis began her career with Pacific Clinics more than five decades ago, in April 1971, as a bookkeeper and receptionist. Since joining the agency, Diane held 13 different positions, including accountant, controller, facilities supervisor, human resources manager, and information systems technician, retiring as divisional assistant at Portals New Hampshire.

The Public Relations Team followed her career over the past five decades, culminating with the video below.

To honor her retirement, we asked Diane five questions about her five decades of service with Pacific Clinics as she imparts wisdom and passes the torch.

Five Questions for Five Decades

1. What advice would you give your younger self to ensure your success at Pacific Clinics?

Get more education before stepping into the work world. Explore all available kinds of work, specifically in fields you already enjoy. There is more to life than what you have been told at home or school. Do all this and success is yours, not only at Portals or Pacific Clinics, but in the world.

2. What are some of your most memorable moments at Pacific Clinics?

The fun memories go back many years—driving Frankenstein on the freeways, meeting Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, celebrating passing DMH audits every time, teaching clients in small groups and temporary work positions that lead each to employment, driving clients or employees around various locations and providing tourist information.

3. What will you do the first day after retiring?

Change the calendar and start booking all the lunches promised to many friends.

4. What are your post-retirement plans?

Enjoying time with family, hitting the alarm clock with a sledgehammer, and setting into a new lifestyle, a new home and a new state.

5. What are your parting words of wisdom for Pacific Clinics employees?

Treat every day as the first of a great adventure. Don’t be angry over anything that cannot be controlled. Respect everyone you meet.

Portals Programs

Pacific Clinics and Portals merged in 2007 to provide comprehensive care to the Greater Los Angeles area. Our Portals locations are home to several programs for adults requiring our most minor to most intensive care. The programs range from inpatient and outpatient to field-based services for young and older adults who may be unhoused or recently discharged from a hospital, Institution for Mental Diseases (IMD) or released from jail. We offer mental health and housing services, employment and health navigation for clients with medical issues.

Additionally, we offer outpatient services for clients dealing with substance use disorders to overcome challenges related to dysfunctional relationships, poor performance at school or work, legal issues, health issues and housing. Our clubhouses focus on group and individual counseling, recovery meetings, psychiatric consultation, medication monitoring, employment services and socialization activities.

Lastly, we provide mental health services to welfare-to-work participants identified as having mental health challenges that are a barrier to their employment success.

It’s not goodbye; it’s a bon voyage.

In her final position as a divisional assistant at Portals New Hampshire, Diane played a pivotal role in providing a seamless experience for our clients. Click here to  view our over 150 year timeline.

We offer best wishes to our longest-tenured Pacific Clinics team member, as she embarks on the next chapter of her journey.

We are grateful to our dedicated employees who grow with the organization. Be part of our team and apply for your new role today.
