Pacific Clinics’ Senior Clinical Director Glenn Masuda, Ph.D. was interviewed, saying, “you can’t sit just out there and say ‘Hey, here’s crisis counseling, we’re here for you.'” Because of cultural norms, Asian men will often not talk about their struggles.
“Isolation can add to anxiety and depression, based on the fact that, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life. How much life do I have?'” says Masuda. “However, people want black and white dichotomous answers of ‘why?’ and ‘how come?’ — we don’t have those answers.”
