Support Services offer various programs to address social determinants of health, including housing and employment coaching and placement, among other critically needed services.
Pacific Clinics believes in the power of caregiver involvement, social connections and community collaboration. It is with these beliefs that the Parent Institute was developed.
The Parent Institute is a safe place for parents to learn and grow. The foundation of our program is utilizing the research-based Strengthening Families’ Five Protective Factors Framework. Parents gain knowledge, connect with a social network and build capacity to strengthen their family and community.
Most importantly, the program supports optimal child development and reduces the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. Parents gain knowledge and confidence in their own abilities through workshops, support groups and family events.
We also provide child care to allow the parents freedom to fully engage in learning. Children engage with their own activities to enhance social-emotional growth while their parents are in Parent Institute. Extending its reach into other community venues, the Parent Institute also offers Making Parenting a Pleasure. This specialized curriculum focuses on the importance of bonding, early intervention and setting the stage for lifelong learning for children ages 0-5.
Some parents also learn to provide education, advocacy and assistance to others through participation on our Parent Advisory Committee.
“I stand here today empowered to take on another day to change the course of my future and that of my children.”
– Parent Institute parent
The Parent Advisory Committee is a group of parents who expressed an interest in and desire for leadership. They meet quarterly and their leadership embodies our agency’s commitment to family voice and choice. They guide the planning for Parent Institute activities, learn advocacy skills and gain confidence in adding their voice to a variety of community stakeholder meetings.
Parent Institute is a part of our Hollygrove programs suite, which are privately funded services in the Los Angeles community. These innovative services extend the reach of our publicly funded programs, seek to address the needs of the family before problems take hold, and are offered at no charge.
The Parent Institute is free and open to all parents and caregivers in the Los Angeles area. Groups and seminars are provided in English and Spanish and child care is provided.
